Nom Nom Nom…Crunchy Groceries!

I love a brand with personality (especially if it doesn’t take itself too seriously-hello have you seen the hedgehog wearing a bowler hat and a monocle on this site!?)…It could be in the tone of voice, or illustrations or a whole number of other ways. So when I spotted this Crunchy Grocer concept last year, I thought ‘that’s how it’s done’. It’s professional, but still full of life, whether it’s in the type (which was drawn onto construction paper and cutout…or in the nibbles taken out of edible and non-edible objects…the name or just the whimsy in the typography. I. Love. It.

It’s all been done for a new concept natural food store, which hasn’t appeared to have opened YET, but will hopefully open soon in Colorado in an old school building. It’s a fabulous concept, which you can read more about here and grab yourself a crunchy grocer sticker by signing up for their newsletter here. Good luck to Crunchy Grocer and a big kudos to them and their collaboration with Tenfold Creative on such a well executed brand!

The short of it…

Wow, where have I been lately? I’d like to say I’ve been off having adventures…but sadly I don’t have much to show for my time away. Just work, life and trying to get off the computer to give my eyes/wrist/brain a liitle bit of relaxation. One thing that has changed in the last few weeks is my wardrobe…an order to ASOS and the new season launching at work and voila—every day a new box of clothing is being crammed into the 2.5 foot wide space I call a closet. Certainly not something to complain about…

I’ve been desperately seeking new skirts for several seasons now but am really struggling to find ones I like…they are either too businessy-long (which requires heels, something I’m not up for very often) or way too short to be considered appropriate. So shorts it is…somehow I feel you can get away with them being a bit shorter? The cutesy River Island Flocked Spotty Shorts from ASOS (pictured above) have recently made their way into my life..you can’t be too short if you have twee spots, can you? Maybe don’t answer that…

Oh and then there is Madewell. Sigh. The Silky Trouser Shorts in their fabulous Napolean blue colour (bottom left) are fabulous… BUT NO INTERNATIONAL SHIPPING! Ah, but never fear as ASOS is near with the decently similar Asos Soft Turn Up Short (bottom right) which somehow snuck in too…(cue innocent whistling).  Not quite the same zing, but I think they will do. Paired up with my new pair of flat, over the knee ‘Puss ‘n’ Boots’ style suede boots and perhaps I AM ready for a bit of adventuring-pirate style…maybe that is where I was going wrong!

‘Cos it’s just too pretty

Must. resist. the temptation… to buy a whole new wardrobe from Cos. I’m always a fan of their clothing, but the thing really tipping me over the edge at the moment is their fabulous new shopping bags.  The level of attention and detail, not to mention expense spared is impressive. The main bag is fully illustrated with a cute woodland graphic (lightly holiday theme), as well as a fabric handle and rotating gift card. Plus, it has an inner brown paper bag with a printed graphic ornament across the seams (not visible in the shot)…and all for a £30 belt! If I buy a whole new wardrobe now, I can stock up on enough bags for all of Christmas, which is really like saving money…no?

Personality in spades…

Mission accomplished. One of the aims ( 1 of 437) when I started this blog was to keep in touch with friends and family. Well after my dissapearance the past week or two I’ve started receiving worried emails asking me if I was okay… Oops! Needless to say I’m perfectly fine, just enjoying some non computer time. I went to NYC on a work trip and had the lovely advantage of popping back to see my family while I was stateside, but more on that later.

So with all that American time, you’d think I’d be sick of US brands, but on Saturday David, Olive and I popped into the Kate Spade London popup shop, just off the corner of Covent Garden. It’s a fabulous townhouse, dressed as well, just that, a cool house. I felt slightly conspicuous as it was pretty much just me and a whole bunch of staff. It was so well styled I didn’t want to touch anything. As I was leaving, I was following the stripey staircase down and ran into some dancing feet–leading me to a free photobooth. I almost felt guilty using it. After I picked up my picture, I ran into Olive who had been invited in, so I pushed David and Olive in for family portrait…well minus me.

Highlights of the shop are the limited edition “London Calling” bangle retailing for £65, the interiors of the front room on the first floor including yellow overlay painted box, stripey & stencil painted floors, green doors, the list goes on. They’re moving out mid November, perhaps they’ll be looking for renters! I reckon I’m only a few million off…

The H&M Type

All in one month gap, zara and h&m launched an online shop. Worrying I tell you, especially when it seems like they are all offering better stuff online than what is on the shops. The home line from H & M has some great stuff…err not the naff butterflies, or the questionable colour schemes, but the vintage esque typographic collection. The site is quite akward to navigate meaning that even once I’d found something I liked, I found it hard to find it again (see the striped cushion with a number 36). Nonetheless, I feel these pieces would sit quite nicely in my little flat moodboard I made last year! Of course I’d love authentic vintage grain/flour sack accessories, but when it runs £75 a yard, desperate high street measures must be taken. Has anyone seen any H & M home stuff in the flesh?

Back to School Supplies…

It feels like it’s been awhile since I’ve seen any good shop windows. Well last weekend, we got on our bikes to head down to Harrods (not often a destination of ours) but David wanted some piece of rock climbing equipment that he couldn’t find elsewhere, and well I went along becuase why not? And what to my heavenly eyes did appear but a fabulous window display for Harvey Nichols. For those of you unfamiliar with London luxury shopping, Harvey Nicks is one of the three luxury department stores (along with Harrods and Selfridges).

I don’t know if you can make it out in the phone pictures, but they’ve created full on displays out of basic supplies, dare I say school supplies. Each window uses a different object as its building material…so one window made out of tacks, another from clothes line clips, another out of pencils, tapes…you get the idea. I think I definitely need to get that clothes pin dress as a second outfit when my moss skirt is in wash.

If you like shop windows, you might want to check out the windows from Anthropologie, Fortnum & Mason, Christmas Windows
