Burrilliant…

Taking over from Rob Ryan in the ‘artist’s studio’ of the Pick Me Up fair was Anthony Burrill. I was tempted to buy a newspaper or postcard set as it looks incredible as wallpaper! Nice simple graphics and messages.

Oh Bobby!

After the giant cardboard creations yesterday, my favourite work at the Pick Me Up fair (the graphic arts festival in London) was from Paul Blow. I’d have loved to take the riot police man home with me..and I could have for quite an affordable £180. Just have to stay out of trouble and keep my fingers crossed and he could be mine!

Card Bored…

Yesterday, there was paper, today cardboard…a touchy touchy craft extravaganza! A few weekends ago, David and I made a visit to the Pick Me Up, the graphic arts fair at Somerset House in London. We made a visit last year and were impressed with the work, so there was a lot to live up to…and I say it did pretty well. I had less of the wow-factor than last year as it had been something new BUT there were still some goodies.

The artist behind my favourite was Matthew Nicholson who designed a series of giant cardboard objects revolving around the theme ‘a few of our favourite things…’ for Nobrow had a special cove. My favourite was the Wacom tablet, but probably just because it’s a topical thing for me as I’ve started using one this year and have already grown way too attached to it. The Cup of Tea Chair with fabric tea bag was pretty incredible too as was the giant sushi, sneaker and watch. Everything was probably 3-5 feet in height/width and made of cardboard.  Plus check out this image here which shows the bookcase that completely passed me by..a typographic bookcase that was laser cut from over 25 sheets of 3  x 1.5 m heavy duty cardboard! How did I miss that? Probably too busy ogling the 5 foot shrimp I guess…

Easy as ABC…

Paper sculpting is back…Love these photographs from French artist Jérôme Corgier of l’Atelier Pariri. The ones with shallow depth of field are my favorites and would look great as an a2 sized poster!

Thanks to Fubiz for the dose of inspiration

Toe Polish…

It might be the spring solstice, the impending daylight savings time change…or just the fact that I’ve had a bit of vitamin d the past few days, but I AM READY for spring. Or more likely it’s just a growing obsession with neon, but I would loooove to have a pair of neon toe cap flats for my springy toesies. They seem to be ‘everywhere’ at the moment, but all at quite a springy price. I tried to pacify myself with a pair of £10 Zara metallic toe caps in the Christmas sales, but the feeling of what I can only describe as ‘binder clips on my toes’ is not a good look ( or feel). Can anyone vouch for Jcrew or Kate Spade flats and their worth/quality? Any justification can be forwarded straight on to me, Brittany  c/o the spring shoe fund…

Pom Pom Ballet Flats from Jcrew $198 USD

Tipsy shoes by Kate Spade (in yellow) $128

Cece leather and canvas ballet flats (toe view) $128 USD

Seat Yourself…

Ever since Ilse Crawford worked her magic on the Grand Hotel Stockholm a few years ago, I’ve had a windsor chair (or two or three) on my wishlist. But not just any old frumpy chair, but one with a twist. I mean Ilse’s is on a pedestal all to herself due to it’s be-ah-u-tiful play on proportions…those super tall spindles….lovely!

But I’m a realist and fully aware an Ilse Special is not the cards so I had to move further afield—and West Elm played perfectly into my plans (well aside from the ol’ international problem) with a whole ‘collection’ of  accent chairs, chaise lounges and dining chairs. With the amount of stock I’m considering taking in, I might need to open a hotel just to be able to store it all…

To get in on the spindly seat love action yourself:

Modern Windsor Chaise $699 USD

Modern Windsor Dining Chair $149 USD each

Modern Windsor Accent Chair $399 USD each
